Installation and Setup

Requirements #

To ensure smooth installation and optimal performance of the Meacodes Accessibility Tools plugin, your WordPress environment must meet the following requirements:

  • WordPress Version: 4.0 or higher
  • PHP Version: 5.4 or higher
  • Tested up to: WordPress 6.5

Additionally, you will need sufficient permissions to install and activate plugins on your WordPress site.

There are two primary methods to install the Meacodes Accessibility Tools plugin: via the WordPress dashboard and by manually uploading the plugin.

Method 1: Install via the WordPress Dashboard

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin panel.
  2. Navigate to Plugins: In the left-hand menu, click on “Plugins” and then select “Add New”.
  3. Search for the Plugin: In the search bar, type “Meacodes Accessibility Tools” and press Enter.
  4. Install the Plugin: Locate the plugin in the search results and click the “Install Now” button.
  5. Activate the Plugin: Once the installation is complete, click “Activate” to enable the plugin on your site.

Method 2: Manual Installation

  1. Download the Plugin Zip File: Download the Meacodes Accessibility Tools plugin zip file from here.
  2. Log in to your WordPress admin panel.
  3. Navigate to Plugins: In the left-hand menu, click on “Plugins” and then select “Add New”.
  4. Upload the Plugin: At the top of the page, click the “Upload Plugin” button. Choose the downloaded zip file from your computer and click “Install Now”.
  5. Activate the Plugin: Once the installation is complete, click “Activate Plugin” to enable the plugin on your site.

Initial Setup #

After installing and activating the Meacodes Accessibility Tools plugin, you need to configure its basic settings to start enhancing your site’s accessibility.

Note: The plugin comes with standard settings where all features are enabled by default, except for the “Positionable by User” feature, which is disabled. Users do not need to perform any initial configuration to activate these features.

  1. Access the Plugin Settings:
    • In the WordPress admin panel, navigate to “Mea Accessibility” in the dashboard menu.
  2. Configure Basic Settings:
    • The settings page provides various customization options. By default, the following features are enabled:
      • Font Size Feature
      • Line Height Feature
      • Letter Spacing Feature
      • Dyslexia Mask Feature
      • Grayscale Page Feature
      • Contrast Feature
      • Negative Feature
      • Underlined Links Feature
      • Highlight Links Feature
      • Grayscale Images Feature
      • Black and White Page Feature
    • The “Positionable by User” feature is disabled by default but can be enabled by checking the corresponding option.
    • Users can disable any of these features if desired by navigating to the “Features” tab in the settings page. More detailed information about each feature and its configuration will be discussed in the settings section.
  3. Save Changes:
    • After configuring your settings, click the “Save Changes” button at the bottom of the settings page to apply them to your site.
  4. Reset Settings:
    • If you need to revert to the default settings at any time, click the “Reset Settings” button. This will restore the plugin to its initial configuration.
  5. Test Accessibility Features:
    • Visit your site to ensure that the accessibility features are working as expected.
    • Make adjustments as necessary to meet your specific accessibility requirements.
